Freedom of communication and privacy are fundamental cornerstones of an open and just information society. Donations from private individuals, funds and corporations help us dedicate ourselves to independently preserving those cornerstones.

Durable and independent

Our financial policy is transparent. We have a healthy mix of sources of income. It is our ambition to receive as much revenue as possible from individual donors, at least one-third from funds and at most one-third from corporate donors. We do not accept money from the government, and corporations may donate 2.5% maximum of our budget per year.

Individual donors

Most of our revenue stems from private donors. Their support is important to us, not only to guarantee our continued existence, but also because it shows how many people stand behind Bits of Freedom’s goals.

Funds and project financing

Bits of Freedom receives structural support from the following funds: Adessium Foundation, Limelight FoundationSIDN, Stichting Democratie & Media.

In addition, we currently receive project financing from the following funds: Gieskes-Strijbis Fonds, Stichting Goeie Grutten, and Civitates.

Corporate donors

Some corporations think that what we do at Bits of Freedom is so important that it deserves their financial support. We accept contributions from the corporate world only if it comes without any strings attached, and if we can be transparent about those contributions.

Would you like your corporation to donate? No problem. Corporate donations start at EUR 500 a year.
