Call to the Dutch government: prioritize the democratic rule of law, our freedom, security and digital autonomy

The Dutch government has recently fallen. During this government's term, it has failed to address key challenges. Trust in government has been further damaged, democratic institutions have not been strengthened, and our security and autonomy have declined.

Now more than ever, geopolitical developments demand a decisive government that puts our freedom, security and autonomy first. The government must commit to:

  • Protecting national security by investing in our strategic digital autonomy;
  • Restoring trust in the government by focusing on transparency, clear communication and accountability regarding their actions;
  • Increasing consumer power and the innovative capacity of the IT industry in Europe through strong regulations that create new markets and protect against dominant, non-European, companies.

The undersigned emphasise that taking control on the digital domain is crucial for our economic resilience, national security and human rights. The government must make our digital autonomy its spearhead. This cannot be done without actively involving civil society.

The current administration was mainly concerned with itself and contributed to more divisions in society. This has led to distrust and stagnation. The only way forward is with a government that stands firmly behind the democratic rule of law in which the rights and freedom of everyone in the Netherlands are respected.
