I firmly believe in an open internet and in privacy as a fundamental right. Over the recent years, I have come to realize the importance of educating oneself about online freedom and the value in creating community-driven, open-source products that can contribute to advancements in a wide range of fields. Open-source (BSD-, MIT-licenses and others) encourages innovation through collaboration. Without it, much of the internet and the technologies we take for granted today would never have developed as they have, or would be patented. Think for instance of Linux operating systems, which are a big chunk of servers all around the world, or Apache/NGINX, which handle much of the internet's traffic.
With an interest in digital and information technology, I initially started as an IT support specialist while pursuing a degree in Computer Science, but I quickly came to realize my passion for problem-solving and engineering. After working as a system engineer, I familiarized myself with cloud technology and its effect on people-powered networks - I'm excited to see the future of cloud technology, but am at the same time skeptical.
I believe in Bits of Freedom's work to enhance and raise awareness about privacy, and protect and advance the freedom of communication. As a system administrator, I contribute, among others, to future-proofing Bits of Freedom's infrastructure and support the team and our volunteers.
